We’re an independent group in London dedicated to hosting special events of underscreened movies, usually on 35mm film prints.
In 2013, we noticed New York’s Museum of Moving Image was putting on a tribute to the late cinematographer Harris Savides. We thought it would be exciting if someone did something similar in the UK, but none of our usual movie haunts seemed to have anything like this in the works, so we arranged one ourselves. Our first meeting to plot the details was before a screening of Terence Malick’s Badlands at BFI Southbank, and from there, the name The Badlands Collective was born.
We’re not into gimmicks or performative self-publicity, just great movie shows. From showing exciting flicks on magical-looking prints, to keeping tickets as cheaply priced as possible, to providing informative, collectible programme booklets, to hosting special guests, we make our screenings memorable in ways that do justice to our love of cinema.
Philip Concannon (@Phil_On_Film) adores Buster Keaton and big dinners, and when he’s not seeings hundreds of movies and plays per year, he also finds time to write for such publications as Sight & Sound.
Ian Mantgani (@mant_a_tangi) adores dogs and ice cream, is an award-winning filmmaker, and as a teenager in the 90s, was the first ever UK-based member of the Online Film Critics Society. He has also contributed to such publications as Sight & Sound.
Craig Williams adores his family (feline and human), devours horror movies and all kinds of literature, and his programming days go back decades to when he tended his hometown arts centre in North Wales.
